RUSNANO and Bebig

Lease of nanotech equipment for cancer treatment by brachytherapy.

Under the terms of a 5-year (2009-2014) financial lease contract, KMLC “OTKRITIE”, part of BUSINESS ALLIANCE Leasing Group, is to provide a full range of services including purchase, integrated delivery and insurance of special equipment designed by International Brachytherapy s.a., a leading European manufacturer of implants for prostate cancer treatment.

This project is aimed to establish a production and development line of radioactive microsources, microspheres and accessories used for cancer treatment by brachytherapy in Russia.

Brachytherapy is an advanced cancer treatment of radiotherapy where small iodine—125 implants, also called “seeds”, are placed near or inside the cancerous tissues affected. The seeds deliver a high radiation dose to the tumor while reducing the radiation exposure in the surrounding healthy tissues, therefore maximizing the cancer control rate while preserving the patient’s quality of life.

The potential value and contribution this project brings into Russian society knows no bounds. More than 2.5 million people suffering from different types of cancer are urgently required to undergo high—end nanotech treatment in Russia.

The Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (RUSNANO) was established by the Federal Law № 139—FZ in September 2007. The mission of RUSNANO is to make Russia one of the world leaders in nanotechnology. The priority of RUSNANO is the commercialization of nanotechnology projects with high business potential and/or social benefit. The Corporation has RUB 130 billion (about USD 5 billion) fully provided by the Russian Government and under the management of CEO Anatoly Chubais, former CEO of RAO UES of Russia.

International Brachytherapy s.a. (named IBt—BEBIG after consolidation in 2007 of the IBt и Eckert&Ziegler Bebig) designs, produces and markets worldwide a complete range of radiotherapy implants used in permanent brachytherapy. The group today includes subsidiaries based in Germany, France, the UK, Ireland, Spain and Italy as well as a large number of distributors spread throughout the world.

OOO “Bebig” (founded in July 2004) together with its strategic partner Zavod Medradiopreparat, has succeeded in the Russian market development for radioactive technology. Nowadays, it is the only company distributing radioactive microsources in the entire Russian Federation
